With poor soil, water does not drain through properly causing plants to drown, it also limit their growth potential if it lacks a lot of nutrients. Luckily, you enrich your soil by adding a lot of organic matter such as manure, seaweed, sawdust, and compost.

How To Create Compost
Using biodegradable items such as fruit scraps, vegetable, and leaves, you can create your own compost to assist with your plants growth. You can use either a compost bin, compost drum or a compost heap.

Garden Critters
As a gardener it's important that you develop the knowledge of what insects/bugs are beneficial for your garden! Insects like bees and butterflies play a pivotal role with your garden's pollination. Beetles and centipedes help with your garden's decomposition. Toads/frogs assist with getting rid of critters that destroy plants such as slugs.

Planting Seasons
Although our climate is typically hot and humid, in recent times The Bahamas is shown to experience a colder winter season, allowing for various crops to be grown locally. Planting cold season vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli and lettuce. Whereas you have the hot season crops such as pigeon peas, corn and okra.
Fertilizers
Similar to compost, but not entirely the same. There are many forms of fertilizers, there are organic fertilizers such as: blood meal and fish fertilizers. And there are chemical fertilizers like: ammonium nitrate and ammonium phosphate.
